> "Hey, Lori!
> Well, I am still amazed by Amy.
> I went to see her play for a private A&M party on Wednesday night. It was at the Mission San Juan Capistrano about an hour south of Los Angeles. It's an old Spanish mission (from the 1700s, I believe) with a central courtyard/garden that was wonderfully suited for dinner and a concert. There were about 200 people there - all from the upper levels ofmanagement of A&M and Polygram. A very high-powered affair.
> Anyway, Amy was the only performer scheduled for the night. She came onand immediately won over the surprised crowd with an offhand remark about her wireless headphone receiver (which was malfunctioning); "If this thing vibrated, I'd be set" or something like that. I think many of the A&M people still have an image of Amy as the shiny happy gospel singer. Likeso many people have said before, I was struck again by her ability to communicate truthfully and in completely relevant terms. I was so proud. :)
>Amy's backing band for the promo shows is an unsigned group called "OneWorld" featuring Tommy Sims and Chris Rodriguez. As they finished Amy'slast song, the crowd gave her a standing ovation and continued theirapplause until she came back up. As the band filtered back onstage, Amythanked the crowd and suggested that they keep standing for the last song. There were a few moments of silence as everybody got to their places and Amyjoked that "this is like my worst junior high nightmare: being at a partyand everyone standing around and NOBODY talking."
>Eventually they all got there and launched into a slammin' version of"Signed, Sealed, Delivered" with Tommy Sims and Kim Keyes taking the leadvocals. Amy joined the line of background singers and spent the entire songwith a huge grin on her face, looking like she was having the time of herlife.
> It's wonderful to see the deepening that seems to be happening in Amy's life. She seems quieter and more solid than (in my admittedly limited experience) I've seen her before. It's the same place I am striving to reach in my own life; not running from pain, living with the hope of that place "somewhere down the road". I need so much sometimes and peace often seems a distant dream. It's nice that there is someone like Amy who articulates that process so beautifully. Helps to make it seemmanageable."
