Wednesday, February 11, 1998 THIS 'N THAT... You can now see Amy's "toothless promo" photo for our new local NHL team, The Predators, on page 24 of the February 9 issue of Sports Illustrated. The toothless promos are a spoof on the milk mustache campaign which Amy just shot last fall. (Thanks to Alan for posting this tip to the rec.music.artists.amy-grant newsgroup.) There was also a post saying that Amy was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America on Friday, February 13. I have a message into her management office to inquire about this. I have not heard back from them, but according to a program listing on the internet as of 2/11, she is NOT scheduled to be on. Only Chef Emeril Lagasse. Many of you were fortunate enough to see Amy on her brief promo tour last week. She kept a pretty grueling pace sometimes visiting 2 or 3 cities in one day. She was pleased to have a chance to meet you and told me how amazed she was that so many people knew who I was :-) Amy has her Q&A firmly in hand for the delayed February issue of the FOA newsletter. We will also hear from Ruth McGinnis about the routine she puts Amy through each week and get a peek at Ruth's NEW book release. There will also be a special Compassion International section along with the winner from the last newsletter contest. Not to mention, a full color photo spread recounting the holiday season just past. This week, my faithful assistant (Jeri Melton) will be selecting 10 winners from the ole mail bag - 5 new subscribers and 5 renewing subscribers to win copies of the interactive CD-ROM and the single for "Somewhere Down The Road" from our friends at Myrrh Records. A BIT OFF TOPIC... Jeri & I had the good pleasure of attending a press conference for "Spirit of Sharing celebrity Football Challenge 98" at the arena. Gary Chapman is one of the honorary coaches along with Al Del Greco, Tennessee's 98 NFL Man of the Year and kicker for the Tennessee Oilers. This is only the second year for the event that teams up music celebrities with Arena Football League and National Football League players. Participating charities can request as many tickets as they would like to sell. The tickets are only $5 each and because of the enthusiastic involvement of corporate sponsors to cover the cost of the event - the charity you purchase your ticket from keeps the entire $5 for their cause! With a 17,000 seat arena - they could potentially raise $85,000 in one day! It's a lot of fun for those who participate and quite a hoot to watch! Tickets can also be purchased from TicketMaster at 255-9600. (The ticket price of tickets purchased from TM will be split between Senior Citizens, Inc and the NFLPA Nashville Charities. The game will be played at The Nashville Arena on March 15. Lastly - some of you may remember my mentioning a new album to be released by my friend, Michele Tumes. It's release date has been delayed for more than a year (gosh, does that sound familiar...), but LISTEN is finally set to hit the streets February 24. Sparrow created a listening line where you can now hear snippets of 3 tunes from the album. Call 800-738 7647 (access code 5120). The review in CCM Update says: "Ethereal, haunting vocals complement Tumes' piano melodies and afford the listener a sense of resting in God...For Enya listeners, those who enjoy orchestral-based contemporary music." Check it out. You'll be glad you did! So long for now!
