(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) March 5, 1999 - Myrrh recording artist Amy Grant has regretfully filed for divorce from Gary Chapman, her husband of sixteen years, due to irreconcilable differences. Both Grant and Chapman have requested prayers and privacy during this difficult time.
Jim Chaffee, G.M./V.P. of Myrrh Records states, "We are saddened by this announcement and continue to pray for Amy, Gary and their children. Amy's achievements have raised the level of awareness of Christian music and, more importantly, the Gospel in the world. Additionally her life and music have encouraged and edified the body of Christ over the span of her career. We will continue to support Amy as a Myrrh artist. Our prayer is that God's presence will be with her and with her family through this difficult time."
Grant has been an artist on Word Entertainment's Myrrh label for more than 20 years and is recognized as one of the most influential Christian artists of all time. Her music has garnered tremendous popularity and respect in Christian and mainstream markets alike, as evidenced by her five Grammy awards and numerous Gospel Music Association Dove awards. In addition, Grant is well known for her humanitarian efforts, as a recipient of the TNN Sarah Cannon Humanitarian Award in 1996 and the distinguished St. John University Pax Christi award in 1994.
